ARTISERA
₹130,000 260 Stars Back
For S.H. Raza, the color black held immense meaning and potential. He believed black is the ‘mother color’ from which all other hues are born. The upper half of this work has a black bindu and areas around it represent the different fundamental elements of nature, and their balance. The lower half of the canvas is representative of Raza’s engagement with gestural brushwork, while the primary palette is an expression of the earthiness of his native land. Here, the yellows and greens along with black and white reflect the landscape of Madhya Pradesh, that was Raza’s home for many years, and where he spent most of his childhood. The format of this work is also symbolic of one exploring the depths of the cosmos, yet having a strong foothold in their roots and memories.
